FreestyleFarm » AN URBAN FARM IN THE CITY

beijing, day 1

We finally made it. Our first night’s very scant, and very pricey peking duck dinner was in a swanky tourist trap restaurant, (note to self, avoid restaurants located above a Gucci store). In the morning, we hit the jackpot when we discovered a little gem located in a Hutong near our hotel. Wandering through these narrow laneways, we caught a glimpse of everyday life – people getting ready for work and riding kids to school on bicycles. These little places to eat are easily missed, your only clue is when you see the cooks deep frying out front. The total for eight of us, with bellies stuffed full of steamed pork buns, steamed veggie buns, tea eggs, tofu pudding, dumplings, fried bread sticks, and wonton soup came to only $8.00 Canadian…for ALL of us!

We hired a driver for the day to take us to the Forbidden City, followed by lunch at a noodle house, then we visited the Summer Palace in the afternoon.

The Summer Palace is spectacular, I can only imagine how beautiful it is when everything is in bloom. You could easily spend a day here to linger and stroll through the enormous property.

And Hubby still brings me coffee.
