Cat People

In the late 80’s I owned a cat from hell. Eon would hiss and growl and scare the heck out of everyone. Being solid black made him even more evil. One night, I invited my boss for dinner. Eon attacked her, sinking his teeth into her hand, feet dangling off the floor as she tried to shake him off. I swore NEVER, would I own a cat again. Until we got Mitts

Oscar

…followed by Oscar, my beautiful Exotic Shorthair (short-haired Persian) in rare chocolate brown. What a big bear with huge amber saucer eyes. If I had to pick a favourite it would have to be him.

LilyOscar-4

Typical of the breed, Oscar is sweet and affectionate, constantly throwing himself in front of you like a boneless cat, rolling over for a belly rub. At any given time, you will hear someone in our family gushing three octaves higher in baby cat talk. How can you stand so much cuteness under one roof? If you visit, I bet your voice will change too.

LilyOscar

Only a face a mother could love. Exotics are known as a lazy man’s Persian, their short plush coat requires little maintenance.

Dressing Cat

This breed is so docile, quiet and gentle. Like having a live teddy bear.

Kitten on Couch

We were so charmed by this breed, that we got Charlie a few months later. His colouring is seal lynx point. I love his striped tail.

Cat catches Mouse

Charlie has a more adventurous spirit, and like Oscar, is a big purr baby who loves his cuddles.

Girl holding Kitten

Quiet Reading

Cat and Dog

Betty likes cats, after the third one, she didn’t even notice when we got our fourth.

monacharlie-343

Meet Mona, our latest addition in lilac grey. She’s the spunkiest and most vocal of the bunch.

Hungry Grey Kitten

Lazy Cats

See how Charlie (right) has filled out compared to earlier pics? He’s got the nicest plushest coat. These cats don’t shed as much as regular cats.

Sleepy Kittens

There you have it, our parade of cats. We are now officially cat people.

  • deirdre - Finally, another post…and not surprised that it’s about your growing farm! Although I am not cat people, I have to say their colors are gorgeous, esp that lilac gray one (with the chocolate coming in a close second). Hope everyone at the farm is doing well…and hope to see you soon!ReplyCancel

  • oksana - Yes, it has been a while since you posted and I am looking forward to more. I love your cats! I am and always have been a cat person, in spite of the fact that my husband is very allergic. Maybe that is why he took up sailing?ReplyCancel

  • Jill - Oksana, give your hubs kefir, I too was allergic to cats till I started drinking it regularly!ReplyCancel

  • Morgan - I just love your blog! Keep posting! Cute kitties!ReplyCancel

  • Mark - Look into those eyes…How could anyone NOT be a cat lover? Ever since I’ve moved out on my own we’ve always had cats, a house never feels like a home without a cat in it. Last year we took in a dog, he’s sweet and all, but he’s no cat. Yours are adorable.ReplyCancel

  • william - Hi ! …Im just wondering…what ever happened to your shrimp/prawn ? I just bought some to start at home before moving into the pond.ReplyCancel

  • Mary - Jill, those cats are the most adorable ones I have ever seen. I guess they keep you busy with brushing! I love cats but my husband is really allergic. Perhaps we’ll try kefir too. We can test in out at my sister’s. She has four cats. Love your posts and I look at the cats at least once a week!ReplyCancel

  • sam Chell - You’ve got my wife and me interested in a breed we’d been unfamiliar with. We recently picked up two one-year-old rejects at the pound. They get along and dutifully come by each night for their belly rubs. But only a kitten can be brought up to be like your own “baby,” submitting to extended cuddle time. At least I convinced my wife this time not to insist on removing the front nails. The furniture is showing a few scratches, but those are the trade-offs of a cat person. And both cats are surprisingly receptive to having their nails trimmed.ReplyCancel

  • Marcia - In reading this post again as I send it to my sister to settle a debate that these exotic short hair persian cats are the cutest cats ever I am convinced you should breed Oscar. I WANT ONE!ReplyCancel
